Study Day and 30th Anniversary (belated)

Midlands Branch event

The meeting will begin at 10.30 am with registration from 10.00 am and close at 4.00 pm. We hope to see as many of you as possible to celebrate the re-commencement of our regular programme.

Speakers include: Jeremy Lefroy, who will speaker about the life of his remarkable Great Aunt, Helen Lefroy, who was not only a lifelong Jane Austen enthusiast but also a former Bletchley Park worker.

Professor Joe Bray will talk about “The Language and Style of Jane Austen.” He is Professor of Language and Literature at the University of Sheffield and the author of several books on the novel and Jane Austen, including most recently The Language of Jane Austen (Palgrave, 2018). In his spare time he enjoys hill-walking, golf and stained-glass making.

Helen Johnson from the costume museum will discuss dress of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Due to Covid restrictions the above meeting is FREE of CHARGE, speakers’ fees and room hire will be covered by the Society. However, as we cannot serve or prepare food, you are asked to bring your own lunch. Tea and coffee will be available throughout the day served in disposable cups. Or you can bring your own non-alcoholic drinks.

Travel Directions: The Village Hall is situated on the A34 just south of Stone SATNAV ST15 0BJ

From the North, bypass Stone itself on the A34, at the A51 roundabout continue for 200 yards, the hall is set back slightly on the left. Parking as at front and rear of the hall.

From the South, take the A34 from Stafford. At the roundabout where it joins the A51, turn back towards Stafford. The hall is 200 yards on the left. It may not be accessed from the A34 northbound.
