Dr Jane Darcy will talk on “Emma and Danger” on Saturday, 16th November at 4pm.

The once-real danger of a Napoleonic invasion is over, but Emma’s world is wonderfully fraught with dangers.  Your friend might foolishly want to marry a yeoman farmer and you yourself become prey to unwelcome clerical overtures.  Worse still, there’s the very real danger of ending up a spinster.

Dr Darcy formerly lectured in the English departments at University College London and Kings College London.
