The Annual Reports are an important record of the Society’s history since its inception, and of original research over the years.
The Annual Address from each Annual General Meeting is included with the subjects covered ranging from the life and work of Jane Austen and her family to the different aspects of the life and times in which she lived. Each report also contains a wide variety of illustrated articles, and a general index and list of contributors. Contributors have included Elizabeth Jenkins, Elizabeth Bowen, Brian Southam, Margaret Drabble, Marilyn Butler and Deirdre Le Faye.
From 1949 to 2005, the Annual Reports were bound in six volumes titled Collected Reports. Since 2006, the Annual Reports have appeared only as single volumes. The online copies are searchable by keywords. Volume 5 of the Collected Reports contains an index for 1949-2000 inclusive; volume 6 contains an index for 2001-2005 inclusive; and the Annual Report for 2020 contains an index for 2006-2020 inclusive.
The Reports of the Jane Austen Society from 1949 to 2018 inclusive are freely accessible online as part of the Internet Archive.
The Reports of the Society from 2019 to 2024 inclusive are available either here or on the Internet Archive. If you wish to find them on the Internet Archive, enter the following in their search box: “annual report Jane Austen society” followed by the year if you wish to select one.
