The Trustees are pleased to announce that the winner of the competition for a reading of an extract from Pride and Prejudice is Daniel Owen of The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. The runner up was Rory Stroud of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
Their readings are available to listen to below, together with photos and brief biographies. The competition, now only its second year, will be run again in 2027.
Winner: Daniel Owen
Daniel was born and raised in Liverpool, and is currently in his second year of acting studies at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
Before drama school, he spent his time working in the fringe theatre scene in Liverpool, it was during this time that he had the opportunity to be a part of a fantastic Shakespeare North Playhouse production of none other than Pride and Prejudice itself! As well as this, he worked in many local schools delivering drama workshops and educational monologues.
He has always been a keen enjoyer of audio books, and was delighted to be selected as this years winner. He hopes you enjoy listening to his extract and that it’s not the last time you hear him reading Austen!

Runner Up: Rory Stroud
Rory is a Second Year BA Acting student at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Credits in projects include: Romeo in ‘Romeo and Juliet’, Vershinin in ‘Three Sisters’ and Inspector Truscott in ‘Loot’.
Prior to training, Rory graduated from the University of Bristol in English and Theatre studies, with his interest in literature making this competition all the more exciting.
He would also like to congratulate the winner Daniel Owen – a friend of his as they both did a foundation drama course in Stratford Upon Avon. He is thrilled to have been recognised and hopes you enjoy his take on this extract.
